Schooldays! The Avonian Magazine, December 1937
Christmas
"School is in a frivolous mood" declared Margaret Cawley in her editorial. Even the prefects were starting to "unbend" and look forward to the Senior Social - dancing, games and balloons! The weather was festively cold - so cold that pupils were considering "setting a new vogue wearing nose muffs - the latest from Paris, my deah!" It was also unfestively damp - and some girls were in trouble for drying their stockings over the boiler room pipes! Those musically inclined were tuning up for the Carol Service- though some junior "urchins" were spoiling the singing! Margaret ended by saying that ghosts were the favourite topic of conversation amongst all ages, but why, she wondered, were ghosts so solitary as "it would be far more chummy to join the festive throng around the Yule log!"
