Estcourt Norman's mother was Emily Eliza Marshall, my great grandmother. Emily was born in Kilmington, Somerset in 1867. (Kilmington was transferred to Wiltshire in 1897).

Emily was the daughter of a shepherd, William Marshall and his wife Caroline Jane Marshall (née Edwards). Caroline was always known as Jane and her family history with be dealt with later in a separate chapter. Their family were as follows:

Albert was living with his grandparents, John and Jane Edwards, in Kilmington in 1871. He became a groom and can be found working for the Rector of Baverstock, Wilts in 1881. He married Cecilia Ann Jenkins in Cardiff in 1884. He and Cecilia met when she was working as a parlourmaid for the Rector of Baverstock. The couple moved to the Radyr area of Cardiff, near her parents. Albert found a job on the railways. In 1901 the family were in Llanwonno near Pontypridd and Albert was a railway goods guard. They had 6 children: Charles, Herbert, Edward William, Frank, Stanley and Lillian Edith.

Emily was working in service in Kilmington in 1881. She was a domestic servant employed by Elizabeth Ryall, a 'farmeress' of 323 acres, employing 10 men, 2 boys and a shepherd. Emily married William Norman in 1889.

Rosina married her brother in law William Norman after Emily's death in 1911. They had one daughter, Kathleen.

Liza married Joe Hawkins and lived in the Winton area of Bournemouth.

John disappears after the 1891 census and it is not known what became of him.
