The Family of George Norman and Mary Jane Foot

George and Mary had a family of 11 children. All baptisms were in Bratton Seymour, Somerset

Estcourt is a mystery. He disappears from trace after 1881 with no trace of him on the 1891 or 1901 census and no death or marriage record either. Family story says that he died at sea in the West Indies circa 1900 but no evidence has been found to support this story.

Emily was acting as servant to Jane and Louisa Gale of North Cheriton in 1881. She married Edward Charles Goddard in 1882 and the couple lived in Bratton Seymour where Edward was the village blacksmith. They had five children - William Charles, Francis George, Frances Mary, Sidney James and Elsie.

Lavinia may have a servant in Bratton Seymour in 1881, but gave her birthplace as Sturminster Newton, Dorset .I am not certain that this is the correct Lavinia but her age is right.

Eliza married Henry John Hill, a labourer, in 1882. The couple lived in Bratton Seymour for ten years or so before moving to Buckland St Mary in Berkshire. They had 4 children - Ethel Mary, Estcourt, Elsie Mary and Winifred Eva.

bessie was an 18 year old kitchen maid in 1891, working for Charles and Dorothea Barton and Holbrook House.

In 1881 Frederick and George were farm servants in Wincanton. George now appears to be the son baptised as John and Frederick George is now Frederick J. Did they change names? The Civil Registration birth indexes give George 1875 and John 1877. If this is the case, is there an error in the baptism registers. In 1891 both lads were lodging with heir widowed mother Mary Jane Norman in Abergavenny Cottage, Bratton Seymour. She was a laundress.
