The Bush and Edwards Families of Silton, Kilmington and North Nibley

Previous | Next | Contents

Introduction

My Edwards and Bush families were paupers and agricultural labourers living in impoverished countryside of rural north Dorset, south Somerset and south Wiltshire. These were the poorest areas of England and my ancestors were amongst the many peasants scraping a living. Times were hard.

It has not been easy to research these lines due to missing records and the fact that I am researching common names. The Oveerseers Accounts, where they have survived, have been most useful, but Wills, so helpful in sorting out other families, were conspicuous by their absence.

The families mentioned in this section are related to my Norman and Marshall lines.

For an historical background, including evidence to show how poor these labourers may have been, refer to 'Joseph Scammell, An Ordinary Man'.

As with my other families, I only have an outline on the Internet, but as always I will be happy to share and discuss my research with genuine researchers descended from the same families. I would also be extremely interested to hear from anyone who can shed any light on my Edwards family and their mysterious connection with North Nibley, Gloucestershire.
